International Yoga Day: Steps to Retain in Mind Before, Through and After Yoga Practice

The fifth International Day of Yoga will be celebrated on June 21 in 180 countries around the globe. The theme of Yoga Day 2019 is “Yoga for the heart”. In India, the key yoga occasion will be held in Jharkhand capital Ranchi. PM. Narendra Modi will do yoga along with 18,000 people at Prabhat Tara ground in the morning. The Ayush Ministry has come up with a set of procedures for the yoga practice on World Yoga Day. Here are the phases you must keep in mind before, during and after the yoga practice.

International Yoga Day: Phases To follow Before the Yoga Practice

Cleanliness is a vital necessity for Yogic practice. It comprises cleanliness of surroundings, body and mind.

Yoga training should be done in a quiet atmosphere with a stress-free body and mind.

Yoga must be done on an empty stomach or light stomach. Drink small quantity of honey in lukewarm water if you feel weak.

Ensure that your bladder and bowels is blank before starting yoga.

Keep a mattress, yoga mat, or folded blanket nearby before starting the yoga practice.

Wear light and easy cotton clothes to simplify easy movement of the body.

In case of sickness, pain, cardiac problems, a physician or a yoga analyst should be referred.

Yoga professionals should also be referred to before doing Yogic practices during pregnancy and menstruation.

Begin the yoga practices with a prayer or an invocation as to make a conducive atmosphere to relax the mind.

World Yoga Day: Steps to Follow Through the Yoga Practice

Do not hold the breath except it is specifically stated to do so during the practice.

Perform yoga asanas gradually, in a comfortable manner, with consciousness of the body and breath.

Breathing should be constantly through the nostrils unless taught otherwise.

Do not hold the body strongly or jerk the body at any point of time.

It takes some time to get good results, so determined and consistent practice is very essential.

There are contra-indications/ restrictions for each Yoga practice and such contra-indications must always be kept in mind.

Yoga session should end with meditation, deep peace, Shanti Path.
